ABOUT US
The Institution of the Good Samaritan Sisters is an institute of diocesan right, founded by the late Emmanuel Cardinal Kiwanuka Nsubuga in 1978. Its Mother House and headquarters are located in Nalukolongo, a suburb in the Archdiocese of Kampala, Uganda. The generalate is situated at Kisubi along the Kampala-Entebbe highway, en route to Entebbe International Airport, about 15 miles (21 km) from Kampala City.
The Good Samaritan Sisters follow Christ, serving Him in the poor, inspired by Christ’s limitless love and concern for the poor. The Institution shares in the mission of the Church through works of mercy, serving Christ in the poor, sick, and disabled (Can. 676). They focus on charity by being a “neighbor” to people in need (Lk 10:29-37) and love of God who became poor for our sake (Eph 5:1).
The Good Samaritans are also people who read the signs of the times and, in doing so, answer the needs of society as ministers of evangelization based on their charism to help the needy, destitute, and disabled become holistic persons within the Universal Church. They lead a communal life as models of the unity of the Holy Trinity and as an answer to Christ’s prayer for unity (Jn 17:21).
OUR VISION
"A body of joyful bearers of the gospel of restitution to our poor and marginalized brothers and sisters for the realization of the Kingdom of God."
MISSION
To lead people to a joyful experience of their redeemed human dignity, hence participating in restoring the gracious relationship between God and creation through prayer and work.
OUR COMMUNITY
Good Sisters Nalukolongo is a nurturing community empowering women and children through education, health programs, and cultural events, fostering sisterhood, collaboration, and positive change.
Apostolate
The Good Samaritan Sisters' main work is to care for the poor, aged, lame, orphans, and all the needy. The Good Samaritan Sisters not only serve at Bakateyamba Home in Nalukolongo but also extend their mission beyond Nalukolongo. We serve in different areas, reaching out to many people in our society. We work as evangelists, teachers, social workers, nurses, professional counselors, secretaries, catechists, administrators, and agriculturalists. We are all called to be Good Samaritans at all levels in our Christian and religious life. The Good Samaritan Sisters embrace and imitate the Good Samaritan of the Gospel in Luke (10:29-37) by performing acts of love and compassion towards our neighbors.
Relevance to the Current Situation
The Good Samaritan Sisters are called to help the poor, lame, orphans, aged, and destitute among others. Many people in our society face numerous challenges in life. Such challenges include social, economic, political, spiritual, physical, and mental health issues. Amidst these challenges, the number of desperate people in our society has greatly increased. Hence, there is a need for the Good Samaritan Sisters to offer them a helping hand and support.
